Case in Point - The Importance of Food and Water Storage

A long while ago I made a case for food and water storage in the home. Now I'd like to show you just why it is so important. Right now there is a severe winter storm warning for the Maryland/D.C. and surrounding areas. We are expecting 18-24 inches of snow within a 24 hour period. It doesn't snow that much very often, in fact it doesn't snow very often at all here in a typical winter so the state is ill equipped to handle such amounts. When we get snow of that magnitude, most people are snowed in for a few days. It's no wonder residents want to stock up on food and water and toiletries right now. Take a look at the following pictures:

First sign of trouble. No unused baskets outside or in the parking lot or in the store.

Toilet paper is dwindling.

All the cheap eggs are gone.

Water nearly gone.

Same with chicken.

Heaven forbid we have no donuts to eat during the storm!

Oh and bananas!

All checkout lanes are open to no avail...

Just imagine what the scene will be like for a true and unexpected disaster. Instead of people waiting impateiently in line for their groceries, panicked citizens will be looting the store running out with all they can carry, feeling justified in doing so since it's for the good of their loved ones. Even if looting doesn't happen, what are the chances you're going to be able to get everything you need at the store? Will you even be able to make it out to the store in the event of a disaster? Don't wait for disaster to strike. Start stocking up on food, water and other household necessities NOW.

Wow, all that over a snow storm! Haha, I like the part about the donuts.

We made the mistake of trying to grocery shop last night. It was pandmonium!

After 3 hours in the store (we were there until 10 PM), and only half of what was on my list, and a very cranky baby, it was not a enjoyable experience.

What made it worse is that we really didn't need any of the stuff. We have a little food storage. What was I thinking?!

Haha, I love this post! I was already out yesterday so I dropped by the store because we were a little low on milk. I forgot how silly people are before a big storm! My agoraphobia coupled with a baby belly (not to mention one grumpy nap-seeker and one bossy four-year-old who wanted to push the cart) did not help. But we were lucky to be quick in line because nobody needs the 7 items or less lane in a panic. ;)
